Chase Buchanan, premier estate agents covering the london borough of Richmond and beyond. Profile
Established in 1994 from prominent offices in Central Twickenham’s York Street, Chase Buchanan is owned by Partners Bradley Reece and Colin Deer. The ethos behind the company is ‘To provide our customers and clients with a level of service rarely experienced when moving home’. Our initial slogan was ‘Not just another Estate Agent’ and we very quickly proved to the public and our competitors that this was a fact.
Towards the end of 1995 we had started to gain many of our new instructions by recommendation and were fast cornering the middle and upper end of the marketplace. Consistently adding to our team we employed Michael Peacock, a highly experienced Sales Manager, who has since become a Partner of the company.
In 1996 we were approached by The Guild of Independent Estate Agents to become their local representatives and have remained their appointed members ever since. Also at this time we were one of the only local Estate Agents to have a presence on the Internet and were enjoying the benefits of an International audience.
As a long standing member of the National Association of Estate Agents we were also keen to gain our membership of ARLA, the governing body of Letting Agents. In 1997, having traded for a full three years, we became eligible and submitted our application. In November ’97 we were invited to enter a national business competition The Enterprise 2000 Awards, hosted by The Financial Mail On Sunday and sponsored by Lloyds TSB and IBM. We also employed Dusan Jaksic as a key member of the Senior Management Team, who is now a Partner of the company.
In 1998 we opened a new Sales and Lettings office in Hampton Hill High Street and transferred our expanding Property Management Department to the new premises. Following months of scrutiny by the judging panel from The Financial Mail On Sunday, including representatives from Business Link London and the Department of Trade and Industry, we learnt that we had reached the final 16 of The Enterprise 2000 Awards. Later that year we received a commendation at the awards ceremony in London’s Grosvenor House Hotel and continued our celebrations when we were granted full membership to ARLA. We were also proud to be appointed to act for one of the UK’s largest independent property owners for part of their portfolio in the Richmond Borough.
During the course of 1999 our business continued to grow rapidly and we started to look for further premises - to assist our expansion and to open up more opportunities for our staff’s continued development. In 1999 Chase Buchanan were also featured in a leading business magazine, perhaps unfortunately titled All About Making Money, however the message of the article was clear - if you maintain excellent levels of service your customers and clients will come back year after year. Our research in 1999 showed that over half of our new business came to us by way of recommendation from satisfied clients.
As we entered the new millennium we secured prominent offices in the heart of St Margarets Village, which we opened that September. From very early on it was clear that our already good name in St Margarets was winning us many important instructions, we quickly established ourselves as the market leaders in St Margarets, a positioned we have reinforced every year since.
2001 saw the appointment of our Lettings Director, Sophie Matthews. Sophie is widely known and respected within the industry. Towards the end of 2001 we organised a further move for our ever expanding Property Management Department, into a suite of offices close to Twickenham Green. This site has also become our Head Office and provides comfortable space for staff training and team meetings.
At the start of 2002, through our association with The Guild of Professional Estate Agents, we acquired showroom space overlooking Hyde Park on the world famous Park Lane. The Guild provided us with 24 hour touch screen displays in the window of their 2000sq ft office suite to promote our properties to a high profile audience of International and Central London residents. We also invested heavily in our own ‘minimag’ which now has a readership of over 25,000 prospective purchasers and tenants looking for their next home.
In early 2003 we took a long hard look at our corporate image and concluded that it did not accurately reflect the evolution that Chase Buchanan had been through during our first nine years of trading. Working closely with a leading designer we created a new logo and colour scheme and set about implementing this throughout the company in November 2003. In addition to the office refurbishment programme we upgraded our IT equipment and sourced a new high tech database to improve the flow of information across the offices.
At the start of 2004 we were granted membership to the Ombudsman of Estate Agents (OEA). The OEA was set up to provide consumers with a free dispute mediation service and membership is voluntary, however all member agencies are governed by a strict code of practice, which is rigorously enforced. Our expansion continued in May 2004 with the opening of a dedicated Lettings Office in Central Twickenham. This new office followed on from the success of our lettings team in York Street and was necessary in order to keep up with the constant demand for our Lettings and Property Management expertise.
We celebrated 2005 with the opening of a landmark Sales & Lettings branch in Central Kingston enabling us to cover a lot of new territory including Ham, Petersham, Coombe, New Malden, Kingston Hill, Surbiton, Norbiton, Berrylands, Southborough, Hinchley Wood and The Dittons. This high profile office now houses our Land & New Homes Department and pushed the distribution of our monthly company magazine ‘Folio’ to over 45,000 households. The print run of Folio is akin to that of Country Life and we know of no other local Estate Agent who offers their clients such a wide audience of targeted marketing free of charge. In February 2005 we were named Regional Winners (medium sized company category) at the Guild of Professional Estate Agents’ Annual Awards ceremony in the London Hilton on Park Lane. In March our dinner suits were donned again when we were invited to the Café Royal in Regents Street where we were delighted to be announced as National Winners and were presented with this prestigious award by Bill McClintock, Chairman of the Ombudsman for Estate Agents and Andrew Winter, Presenter of Channel 4’s Selling Houses programme. We thank our staff for making us the company that we are today and continue to strive for excellence in all that we do.
